I would say that overthinking causes anxiety, because if we would take life as is we wouldn't have to stress about it but overthinking makes room for a number of possible scenarios that we end up uncertain and the fear of unknowing makes us anxious. Anxiety has robbed me of so much in life, success, fun, friendships, and love.
This is such an amazing, well-put read. I loved it so much. Great Spaan. Also, I'm just started reading Blink :).
I agree that overthinking does stem from "an egocentric mind", however I do not believe the thoughts have "little meaning or consequence to anyone but the person to whom the thoughts belong".
I think overthinking mainly deals with the potential impact that a certain decision or action has on primarily the id (Freudian Theory) but also the impact "your" potential move has on other individuals ie. family, friends, colleagues, strangers and how their reaction is not necessarily in your control. Therefore that lack of control leads to the thought of endless iterations of what could happen.
Overthinking definitely causes anxiety and I can say for sure because I’m an over-thinker myself. And it indeed has robbed me too of many things in life. Whenever I want to pursue a goal, I often find myself worrying about all the little things that don’t necessarily add up to me achieving that goal and I end up not being to achieve it because my overthinking ways have finally succeeded in convincing me that I do not have all the necessary skills that I need to go after what I want and then I find myself at square one. It’s definitely a chain that has to be broken.
Great work my G…definitely well put together, I really enjoyed it. It has also given me some insight on how to move forward from my overthinking ways, I like how you add Tedx talks so we can learn from other people who have overcome such difficulties.
For me, I don’t think it’s about being afraid or anything of that. It’s just a thing of always being conscious of myself and basically just being too much in my own head
I've recently been in therapy and committed and completed a full year. When I was inside, I barely felt it made any difference but towards the end of the year, I began piecing things I've been saying and feeling in therapy together. Finally I felt like I was on the bend and I could see where the road was going. What I'm saying is, I think you would do well in that space. Also the magic is in finding the right one because I had to go through a couple of people that were just not for me until I found my fit. Give it a try and maybe set a time frame to commit and observe your progress.
Thanks for this, it's cool to hear your experience. I've seen therapists all my life, on and off though, because I don't feel it makes sense for me personally to see one perpetually when I would prefer to understand what I'm going through and develop my tools to cope and move on. But yeah I'm very familiar with the process and try encourage others to try it as well.
I feel like imposter syndrome creeps in when anxiety is at bay-the second guessing, the intense self doubt and navigating that or even taking about it to begin with is pretty cool. This was a good read.

I feel the same in the general sense but it doesn’t explain some of the disorders like separation anxiety in my mind, you know?
Happy you enjoyed it tho! Enjoy Blink it treated me well😂🔥☝🏾

What are you afraid of? Do you feel seen? Do you feel heard?
Coz these are some of the major contributers towards anxiety, worry and so forth
For me, I don’t think it’s about being afraid or anything of that. It’s just a thing of always being conscious of myself and basically just being too much in my own head

"Do I overthink because I’m anxious or does my overthinking cause anxiety?" I'm provocated 🆘️
Do you have an answer👀? I'm still wondering lol
